Anora

I'm all into crazy and disruptive stories, but Anora is a pretty conventional one. If you try to squeeze it into a brief summary, you end up taking about a girl and a boy who marry on impulse and then are forced to annul it by his rich parents. I mean, what's new in in? I wish we could learn more about Anora - why she does what she does and how she really feels about it, but instead we see how happy she is to take advantage of that pathetic Russian fellow. So if Anora is a tabula rasa, maybe we learn something about the boy? - Nope, he's nobody. He didn't even invent any stupid app! He's just a son of rich Russian oligarchs, who spends the money he didn't earn. If only he was a real rebel! But no! When the parents show up, he's all happy to end his marriage. So don't get me wrong - the movie is fun to watch and not boring, but to win a Palm d'Or, I would really expect some true insight into the main characters, and to have characters that represent something. And here we get none of that.
